Holding on to Truth

So here we are at the end of our 31 days of lie-busting truth statements. (in case you missed it- here’s where to find them all). The daily emails will stop but the truth of these statements will not. The lies might try to creep back up, but these truths are stronger.

Words are very powerful things. Whether spoken or unspoken – they can shape everything they encompass. Words can start a war or end one. Words can instigate a riot or initiate a romance. Words define. Words clarify. Words build. Words break down. Words are weapons.

Words are death or words are life.

It’s your choice.

The words you use to define or describe yourself can either hold you back or set you up. They can be lies of defeat or they can be conduits of truth.

It’s your choice.

You can affirm your weaknesses and failures or you can affirm your God given identity.

It’s your choice.

You choose the words to hold on to.

Affirmation: the act or process of affirming something.

To Affirm: state as fact; assert strongly and publicly.

Affirmations are not a cheesy self-help tool. They aren’t a name-it and claim-it adage. These affirmations are taking a stand on the truth. They are partnering with what God has said about you, allowing His true statements about you to take root and cause the change you so desperately seek. The breakthrough you’re longing for is not in your discipline of rote statements but in speaking the Word of God.

His word can cut through any lie. His word can outdo any wrong. His word is real. When you choose to assert strongly and publicly what God says about you, your life will change. God’s word is true about you. It is alive and active and it is in you.

I challenge you to choose His word over the worlds’ lies. This is a moment by moment choice. So I challenge you to partner with His Words over your life every moment from here on out. I challenge you to hold on to truth.

Truth Statement: I Am Still Enough

We did it. We debunked 30 lies that eat us up, hold us back, and silence our hearts. We may have never sat across the table together. We might never get to hug this side of Heaven, but I am incredibly proud of YOU! One, you stuck it out with me every day for 30 days (I’d buy your coffee today if I could)! And two: look how far you’ve come, seriously?!!! I want to stand up and shout in victory with you! The power you now hold in your hand is endless. As these truths begin to take root in your soul, your life will change in immeasurable ways.

I know… I know that no matter what lie the enemy throws at you, no matter what fiery dart of distraction he lodges against you, no matter what obstacle you face, or even what might be said against you — No lie can deter you. Lies are defeated in the light of truth, the truth of God’s love for you.

the Truth:
And hope will never fail to satisfy our deepest need because the Holy Spirit that was given to us and has flooded our hearts with God’s love. Romans 5:5

Truth Statement: I Am Free

Have you ever glanced across a wide open field with the grass dancing in the breeze and the sun calling out your name and thought, I want to run with abandon and breath in that wide open space? Only when you went to take the first step you tripped over your past? Stumbled over your weakness, your inability — even your disability.

the lie: I am bound forever, My past / My disability / My Struggles are too ______ for Calvary.

Before you can cross into that wide open space of freedom you will have to speak with the gatekeeper. He is there, right where you are, holding out a gift. This gift isn’t like any other gift you’ve ever gotten, this gift is an exchange. You hand him all of you — all your past, all your inability, all your fears and doubts and weaknesses. And He hands you all of Himself. All of His namesake, All of His heritage, all of His righteousness and worthiness. And then he turns to the side with arms wide as the sky and says

Be Free.

the truth:
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Truth Statement: I Am Confident

As the world spins and twists, races and rages, it’s easy to fall back into the old mindsets of insecurity and weakness. Just because we identify these lies doesn’t mean they don’t try to sneak back up in our minds. Lord knows, I’ve been working diligently at this for nearly a decade… and I still have moments.

the lie: I’m so insecure, I don’t have confidence.

Look. This is a process. We aren’t perfect all of the time- that’s why we need a savior and that is why our savior calls this faith. So when you feel your grip on truth slipping, when the old lies start nipping at your heels, Look to Jesus. Savor His presence and let His gaze wash over you. Confidence is found not in your abilities, but in the reflection of you in His eyes.

the truth:
I seek the Lord and He hears me. He delivers me from all my fears. I look to Him and am radiant. My face is not ashamed. Psalm 34:4

Truth Statement: I Have Wisdom

We’ve all been there. The conversation starts off like a discussion and somehow lands in the spotlight of debate. Starting in your gut, the pulsing of what you’ve always believed, what you’ve always thought, now meets with the arguments of opposing view points leaving you unsteady and unsure.

Or you’ve been here too: the place where the road y’s. Do you choose the path to the right or to the left? Do you take that job offer, or that one? Do you respond to that email with that comment or something else? Do you say yes to this or no? What do you think? What do you know?

the lie: I don’t know, I’m not smart, I’m uneducated, I don’t know what to do.

Your thoughts might be deeper than your words, so your tongue is held back, and that’s ok. Your direction might not come glaring in neon lights, so you proceed with caution, and that’s ok too. Your values and ideals and convictions might not yet be ready for words, but none of that means you don’t have access to the answer.

I’m learning this one, in a new way. Wisdom sometimes convenes in the waiting. Wisdom sometimes is deeper than what you know. When I find myself in a complicated conversation, I’m learning to wait for the still small voice. When I am in the smallest but hardest of decisions, I am waiting for His guidance.

God is always speaking. Holy Spirit is always with you, in everything. Listen for Him. You have wisdom because He dwells in you. Just ask Him.

the truth:
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
