Truth Statement: I Am Beautiful
It stares back at you in the dressing room. It speaks to you in the magazine isle, glaring at you in every single commercial on the television. It shouts between friends and family members and it even lies among lovers. This one lie is one of the most destructive among women. At any age.
the lie: I am ugly. I am not pretty/beautiful/captivating, I am unlovely.
Pause with me a moment, at the Rose bush. The delicate curve of the petals, the color of the fragrance, the unique stem. It’s captivating.
Notice the horizon. The way the sun spills over the mountain peaks, calling to life the stretch of magnificent rock, rock carved through the hands of time. The sky open wide, inhaling glory.
Listen to the wind. It dances through trees, glides across grass. It sways with snow flakes and tickles the back of your neck. It’s power takes your breath, yet it’s gentleness soothes.
Each and every splendor we experience in this world was created by the voice of God. He designed each and every one with stunning creativity and spoke each one into existence. Each one but you. No, you are something special. You were created by His touch. He carefully and meticulously hand-crafted you. And He calls you lovely. He calls you good. He calls you His, and He is well pleased. You are his poetry inscribed on the living.
You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you. Song of Songs 4:7
*can I just tell you- when I first read Song of Songs I discredited this verse, claiming it was not pertaining to me (because that’s how pervasive this unlovely lie is) – until someone explained that this book is a type and shadow of God’s love for us. So I challenge you to read Song of Songs as a love story about how much God loves you. It will wreck you.
