Love Fest ~1

Romantic Heart from Love Seeds

Love is such an ambiguous word.  I love Jesus and Diet Mountain Dew.  I love my children and smothered beef burritos.  God sent His only son because He loves me and my husband loves it when I wear that dress.  I love that show, you love that book.  We love to shop and they love each other.  Everyone loves it when that happens.

Love – a noun and a verb in one powerful word.  There are mountains of songs written about love, wars have started over it, walls have crumbled for it and walls have been built for it.  We have a Holiday set aside for love.  Some despise it, some suffocate because of it and yet others thrive in love.  Love is a complicated essential to our survival.

So in light of the upcoming Holiday, I thought it only fitting to write about it.

We could spend hours studying all the different ways the word ‘love’ is used.  We could spend just as much time studying its effects, both negative and positive, in the world around us.  But I want to look deep inside my own life and watch it unfold there.

We’ve all read the chapter in Corinthians about Love and I am sure it is evoking some sort of memory in your mind even now.  Perhaps the first time those words sunk deep into your soul they were a gift of love realized TO you or it caused a realization of how little you actually gave love.  Perhaps it was an eye-opening sermon or it was a heart-break search in the deepest darkest night.  Wherever you come from on the topic, not one of us can survive on this planet without receiving AND giving love.  We were designed for it, every fiber of our being formed to breathe love in and out.  Our creator is defined by the word and we were redeemed by it.

I’d like to pick apart 1 Corinthians 13 over the next week.  Care to join me?  Feel free to share this conversation with others and please comment below; all thoughts on love welcome here!

 The Way of Love

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump”, and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
If giving everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere.  So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

Love never dies.  Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit.  We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete.  But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.
