White.

It is vast emptiness, blank and formless.  It is the beginning, purity.

It is white.

From white nothings masterpieces can be painted; best sellers can be written and spring can emerge.  Every work of art starts with a blank canvas and every book begins with a blinking empty page.  David prayed in Psalms 51:7 “Wash me and I will be whiter than snow.”   And so, here I am, empty and redeemed.  White.

Wikipedia defines white as “the color produced by the reflection, transmission or emission of all wavelengths of visible light, without absorption”.  Reflection.

I hadn’t put it all together until now.  I have been a follower of Christ for most of my life- repented, saved, and following.  I spend hours reading, I converse with other believers and I attend church.  I give money and help with missions.

But I was still hiding behind walls of shame.

Writers Block by Sharon Drummond

Words of criticism, assumed expectations, and comparisons were the colors I saw in the mirror.  Then my walls began to shed and I noticed it.  His hand poised in anticipation over a white exposed canvas.

All this time I hadn’t noticed this exposure.  I’d been choosing to stay piled behind everyone else, crumpled, empty under the table.  It took a bleeding of lies to recognize it wasn’t His words I’d taken on, it was theirs.  I needed to allow Him to straighten out my bent corners and crumpled middle in order to become the masterpiece He has in mind.  So here I stand pure, redeemed and open to His hand.

White cries out for purpose, for a chance to bring glory to the creator.  White beckons a start.  We, as His creation, were designed to sing of His splendor, to reflect His glory.  We are redeemed not just for the sake of salvation but for worship back to the King.  I have been reluctant to allow His brush strokes for fear of what others may think, of how this creation will compare to other creations.  However, my attempts to make myself a spectacle or efforts to look like those next to me will only result in plagiarism.  I cannot plagiarise.  Naturally, I crave genuine and authentic life.   Authenticity is a truth, purity.  It is real, actual and not an imitation.  Shame kept me hiding behind pretenses.  Now it is time to step out of those false places to allow the Master access to create.

Psalm 107:2  “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story- those He redeemed from the hand of the foe”

Blank Paper in Typewriter by Korjarie Matiessa

This blog has been three years in the making.  God whispered to me in the middle of chaos and grabbed my hand from the grip of death because He isn’t finished with me yet.  He bled me clean of fears and doubts and pulled me out of a cave.  Here on this blank page I want to write about real faith and real life; to offer my exposed words as worship back to God.  May it reflect Him and His splendor.  Life is messy and it is easy to get sidetracked; lost in the shuffle of others’ words and expectations.  Let’s allow ourselves to be His display, authentic reflections crafted into masterpieces.

“But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.  You are all children of the light and children of the day.  We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”  1Thes. 5:4-5

“And we all, who with unveiled faces, reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory….”  2 Corinthians 3:18
